You don't need a complicated “liver detox” — start here. Fatty liver has become incredibly common. And the frustrating part?
You may not feel anything at all. Your liver can quietly accumulate excess fat while you feel perfectly normal. The good news is that lifestyle changes can make a meaningful difference— particularly when fatty liver is related to excess body fat, insulin resistance, diet and inactivity. And you don't need to live on juices or expensive detox supplements. In fact, some of the most useful things you can do are wonderfully boring:
Walk. Move more. Eat enough protein. Eat more plants. Cut back on excess sugar and ultra-processed food. Here are 5 simple habits to start with.
1. Walk after your meals🚶♀️
Don't underestimate walking. You don't need to become a marathon runner to start improving your metabolic health. A simple10–15 minute walk after meals can help your muscles use glucose after eating and can improve overall insulin sensitivity when combined with regular activity.
And when insulin sensitivity improves, that can be helpful for the metabolic environment that contributes to fatty liver. Make it ridiculously easy:
Breakfast → 10-minute walk
Lunch → 10-minute walk
Dinner → 10–15-minute walk
That's potentially 30+ minutes of movement without ever going to a gym.
Walk around your building.
Walk with your dog.
Walk while taking a phone call.
Walk to the nearby shop.
Don't think “exercise.”
Think:
“I don't sit down immediately after eating.”
2. Eat MORE protein💪
This one is particularly important if you're trying to improve your body composition. Protein helps with:
● Satiety
● Maintaining muscle
● Recovery
● Supporting a healthy metabolic rate
● Making weight management easier
And if you're losing weight intentionally, adequate protein becomes even more important because you want to lose excess fat while preserving as much lean mass as possible. Think beyond chicken and protein shakes. If you're vegetarian, excellent options include:
🌱Dal
🌱Rajma
🌱Chole
🌱Soy/tofu
🥛Greek yoghurt
🧀Paneer
🌱Tempeh
🌰Nuts and seeds
Try to include a meaningful protein source at every meal, rather than eating almost all your protein at dinner. And don't forget:
Protein isn't a fatty-liver treatment by itself. The bigger goal is to build meals that are:
Protein + vegetables + high-fibre carbohydrates + healthy fats instead of meals dominated by refined carbohydrates and added sugar.
3. Bring more bitter foods onto your plate🌿
This is where Indian food wisdom gets interesting. Indian cuisine has an incredible variety of naturally bitter foods. Think:
Karela.
Methi.
Mustard greens.
Radish greens.
Amaranth leaves.
Curry leaves.
Moringa leaves.
Other leafy greens. Bitter foods have traditionally been valued in Ayurveda for their effects on digestion and metabolism. And modern research is increasingly interested in the bioactive compounds found in leafy greens and bitter vegetables — particularly their polyphenols and other phytochemicals. But don't think:
“Bitter = liver detox.”
Your liver doesn't need a detox. Instead, think:
More bitter greens = more vegetables + more fibre + more plant compounds. And that's a very good direction for a liver-friendly diet.
4. Get 30–40 minutes of cardio🏃♀️
Walking is fantastic. But your body also needs regular cardiovascular exercise. Aim for around 150 minutes or more of moderate-intensityphysical activity per week, or an equivalent combination of moderate and vigorous exercise. That could mean:
🚶Brisk walking
🚴Cycling
🏊Swimming
🏃Jogging
💃Dancing
🏃♀️Elliptical
🥊Any cardio you genuinely enjoy
You don't have to do it all at once.
Try:
30–40 minutes × 4–5 days a week.
And if you're currently doing almost no exercise? Don't jump straight into 40-minute HIIT sessions. Start with20 minutes, build your fitness, and gradually increase.
Consistency beats intensity.
5. Cut the biggest drivers of excess liver fat🍬
This may actually be the most important dietary change. You don't need to eliminate every carbohydrate. You don't need to stop eating fruit. You don't need to survive on salads.
Instead, pay particular attention to added sugar, sugary drinks, refined carbohydrates, and ultra-processed foods.
Especially:
🥤Soft drinks
🧃Sugary juices
🍰Desserts
🍪Biscuits
🍩Pastries
🍬Sweets
🍨Ice cream
🥣Sugary breakfast cereals
🍟Ultra-processed snacks
Liquid sugar deserves special attention because it's incredibly easy to consume large amounts without feeling full.
Swap:
Cola → water/soda-free drinks
Packaged juice → whole fruit
Biscuits → fruit + nuts
Dessert every night → occasional dessert
Refined snack → protein + fibre-rich snack
You don't need perfection. You need fewer excess calories and less added sugar, consistently.
Where does Gut Lean fit in?🌿
At MOSHA, we wanted to create something inspired by the traditional Indian herbs that have long been used around digestion and metabolic wellness. That's where Gut Lean comes in. It's a blend of traditional botanicals including:
🌿Amla
Rich in polyphenols and traditionally valued in Ayurveda for metabolic and digestive wellness.
🌱Moringa
A nutrient-dense leafy plant containing polyphenols and other bioactive compounds.
🍃Curry leaves
A classic Indian culinary herb with antioxidant-rich plant compounds.
🌿Triphala
A traditional Ayurvedic combination of three fruits —amla, haritaki and bibhitaki— long used in Ayurvedic digestive formulations.
🌿Fenugreek
A traditional Indian metabolic herb containing fibre and bioactive compounds that have been studied for glucose and lipid metabolism.
🌿Ginger
Traditionally used to support digestion and appetite, and widely used as a culinary digestive spice.
🌿Cinnamon + black pepper + pippali
Traditional warming spices used in Ayurvedic and Indian food traditions. Gut Lean brings these ingredients together in a daily bitter botanical blend inspired by Indian digestive wisdom.
But remember:
Gut Lean is not a treatment for fatty liver. Think of it as a botanical addition to a much bigger lifestyle picture:
better food + more movement + adequate protein + less excess sugar + better metabolic health. That's where the real work happens.
Your simple fatty-liver plate🥗
Don't overcomplicate lunch.
Try:
🥬½ plate Vegetables + leafy greens
🍲¼ plate Protein, Dal/tofu/paneer/beans/yoghurt
🌾¼ plate Rice / roti / millet / quinoa / amaranth
🌿Add: Methi/curry leaves/coriander / bitter greens/spices
Finish:
A gentle walk. That's it. No juice cleanse required. No starvation. No “detox week.”
